The Golden Plains High School football team advanced their season record to 4-1 following a 63-0 half-time victory over the Brewster Bulldogs in Rexford on October 2.

The game was all Golden Plains from start to finish. The GP Dogs received the ball to start the game. They quickly got on the scoreboard with a touchdown run from Adam Ritter and a PAT pass from Ruxin Arnberger to Nash Ziegelmeier for a very early 7-0 lead.

Jose Rios kicked back to Brewster but strong defensive tackles by Ritter and Anthony Schippers forced them to punt. Conner Kier made a short run, then caught a pass from Arnberger and ran it over the goal line. The PAT kick from Rios put the Dogs up 15-0. The Brewster boys ended their next series with a punt back to Golden Plains which Ritter returned for another GP score. Kasch Buehler ran in the extra point.

Brewster was stopped by Schippers, Arnberger, Parker Vahling, and Kelby Buehler giving the ball back to the home team. Koen Schaben gained yards before Kasch Buehler finished in the end zone and a 28-0 GP lead. The GP Dogs scored twice more with a pass from Arnberger to Vahling and a safety by Kasch Buehler for a first quarter lead of 36-0.

Arnberger connected with Ritter to open the second quarter with a touchdown and a PAT run in by Koen Schaben. Vahling scored once more for Golden Plains allowing Javier Romero to connect with Jesus Dominguez to ran in the PAT for a 50-0 lead with 6:34 still on the clock. The rules require the teams play until half time.

Brewster put the ball in the air to try and gain some yards but were unable to connect. They punted back to GP. Schaben once again gained some yards making a first down. Kasch Buehler finished in the end zone with Dominguez running in another PAT. Defense from Cristian Garcia, Tannor Todd, and Taitum Roach forced another Brewster punt. Todd intercepted a Brewster pass and ran in a final GP score to finish the game with a 63-0 win for Golden Plains.

“It was a fun game,” said Kasch Buehler. “I was glad all our kids got to play and have the opportunity to get on the field.”

Parker Vahling led the GP team in rushing yards with 78 and 1 touchdown. Kasch Buehler rushed for 62 and 2 touchdowns, Conner Kier 50, Adam Ritter 48 and 1 touchdown, Koen Schaben 45, and Jesus Dominguez 31. Ruxin Arnberger passed for 68 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kier received for 14 yards and 1 TD, Ritter 24 yds and 1 TD, and Vahling 17 yds and 1 TD. Nash Ziegelmeier received for 3 yards.

Vahling had 8 tackles during this short game along with Anthony Schippers 7, Arnberger 5, Kier 3, Tannor Todd 3, Kelby Buehler 3, Kasch Buehler 2, Jose Rios 1, Ziegelmeier 1, and Taitum Roach 1. The Golden Plains boys will travel to Almena to play Northern Valley on October 9. “We need the win to guarantee us a winning season and a home playoff round,” added Kasch Buehler.
