Heartland Christian Schools Update - Oct. 9

October 9, 2026

by Larry Gabel

Thanks to everyone who helped in any way with our Heartland Christian School barbeque this past Sunday. Students, staff, and parents put in a lot of extra time and effort! Thank you, all!

Tuesday evening, our HCS high school volleyball team hosted Logan, Western Plains, and Palco at Colby High School. Our team had somewhat of an off night and lost to all three teams.

Mr. Shane Timson was our Chapel speaker on Wednesday. His focal point was taken from Ephesians 4:29. He made a very strong point of not allowing any “corrupt talk” to come out of our mouths. Many times, we say things in a joking matter that may inadvertently tear someone down. Mr. Timson encouraged us to think things through before we speak. Thank you, Mr. Timson, for sharing with our students and staff.

2nd Grade Field Trip to Atwood

Mrs. Taylor provided our second-grade students this past Wednesday with an opportunity to visit the Good Samaritan Village in Atwood, the museum, and check out bugs at Lake Atwood, along with a picnic at the lake. This was a good learning experience! An interesting piece of information is that the artist, Rudolph Wendelin, which “Smokey the Bear” is most closely associated with, was born in Herndon, Kansas. His drawings and paintings helped to shape the character of Smokey the Bear and are on display at the museum.

This past Thursday, our junior high volleyball team traveled to Weskan to compete with Weskan’s A & B teams and Brewster’s A team. Both of our A & B teams lost to Weskan but had some great plays. Our A team won two out of three games against Brewster. Good job!

Our second graders had the opportunity to dissect owl pellets this past Thursday morning. Our secondary science students worked with our second graders on a one to one basis to help them better understand the concepts being taught.

Thursday was the last day of the first nine weeks of school! Grades should be available for viewing on gradelink by Wednesday.
