The Golden Plains High School Football team took down the Triplains Vikings 51-6 early in the third quarter at their first home game of the season in Rexford on September 18. “It was good to get the win,” said Adam Ritter. “The weather was great and it was fun to have a home game.”

The Bulldogs received the kick and quickly scored with a touchdown pass from quarterback Ruxin Arnberger to Cristian Garcia. The PAT was blocked by the Vikings and the Dogs were up 6-0. The Vikings could not connect on their passes and punted back to the Dogs. Following the punt return by Adam Ritter, Conner Kier gained a few yards and Parker Vahling finished in the end zone. The PAT did not cross the line and the Dogs led 12-0.

Big tackles from Adam Ritter, Vahling, and Anthony Schippers kept the Vikings from advancing and the Dogs took over with a pass from Arnberger to Kier for another Bulldog touchdown. It was called back due to a penalty, but the Dogs persisted and added another score with a pass from Arnberger to Kasch Buehler to end the first quarter.

The Dogs opened the second with a touchdown pass from Arnberger to Kier. Jesus Dominguez kicked the PAT through the uprights and the Dogs held on to a 26-0 lead. The Vikings answered with their only touchdown of the game 26-6. Adam Ritter answered with a Bulldog score and a PAT pass from Kelby Buehler to Arnberger put the Dogs up at 33-6.

The boys continued to move the ball but had some passes intercepted and fumbles to recover. The Dogs regrouped and got their passes to connect from Arnberger to Vahling for a gain then to Garcia for a score. With just 5 seconds until the half, Arnberger intercepted a Viking pass and returned it for another Bulldog score and a 45-6 half time lead.

Kier put in a final touchdown for the Dogs early in the third to finish the game with a 51-6 Bulldog win. “We did a really good job,” continued Ritter, “but obviously have things we still need to work on such as running the ball. We need to look for the clear, not the cloudy.”

Rushing yards included Arnberger 69, Kier 48, Vahling 36, and Ritter 9 in this shortened game. Arnberger passed for 118 yards, Kelby Buehler 3, and Javier Romero 2. Garcia received for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kasch Buehler received 8 yards and 1 touchdown. Schippers received for 2 yards, Arnberger 3, Vahling 13, Kier 23 with 1 touchdown. Tackles were made by Arnberger 10, Garcia 9, Vahling 8, Ritter 7, Schippers 6, Kelby Buehler 4, and Kier 2. Arnberger grabbed 2 interceptions including 1 pick 6 for a 68 yard touchdown and Vahling had 1 fumble recovery.

The Bulldogs have a season record of 2-1 heading into Homecoming week. The Bulldogs will host Western Plains in Rexford on September 25. “We need to continue to work hard and play hard and put the hammer to the anvil to get the Homecoming win,” added Ritter.
