The Golden Plains High School football team fell 0-49 to the Wheatland/Grinnell Thunderhawks in Grainfield on October 23.

The Bulldogs kicked to the Hawks to start the game. The Hawks, who are now 7-1 on the season, quickly scored their first touchdown and PAT of the game. After kicking it back to the Bulldogs, the Dogs took a hard hit and fumbled the ball. It was picked up by the Hawks and ran in for a second score.

The Dogs just couldn’t get their offense going and the Hawks took advantage by adding two more touchdowns to lead 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was again all Hawks. The Dogs made some good stops, but the Hawks added three more touchdowns while holding the Dogs away from the end zone to win the game 49-0 at the half.

This was the first time this season the Bulldogs did not get on the scoreboard. Although the Bulldogs were unable to gain much on offense, they had some stops including 10 tackles from sophomore Ruxin Arnberger in this shortened game, along with 2 each by Adam Ritter, Conner Kier, and Kelby Buehler, and 1 apiece from Jose Rios, Cristian Garcia, and Parker Vahling. Garcia also had a fumble recovery.

“No one was focused,” said Arnberger. “It was just a bad game for us.” The Bulldogs now hold a 5-3 season record as they prepare for the cross-bracket game against Bucklin in Rexford on October 29.
