Ryler Carter pitched a shut-out in game 2 against Goodland with 7 innings pitched only giving up 4 hits while striking out 11.

The Colby Lady Eagles softball team didn’t hesitate while making a statement to open the 2026 season, sweeping Lakin on the road March 26 behind a combination of timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and dominant pitching performances.

Colby opened the day with a tightly contested Game 1, eventually pulling away late for a 7-3 victory. The Lady Eagles struck first in the opening inning when Morgan Hills sparked the offense with a triple and later scored on a groundout from Sadie Cheney to give Colby a 1-0 lead.

Lakin answered in the second inning to tie the game, and the contest remained a back-and-forth battle through the middle frames. Colby regained the lead in the fifth, capitalizing on pressure at the plate and productive outs. Morgan Hills and Cheney each crossed the plate in the inning, helping the Lady Eagles build a 3-1 advantage.

Lakin responded again in the bottom half, taking advantage of a couple of defensive miscues to even the score at 3-3 heading into the sixth. That’s when Colby delivered the decisive blow.

The Lady Eagles erupted for four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run double from Cheney that broke the game open. Colby added another run on a passed ball to stretch the lead to 7-3, and the defense shut the door from there.

Cheney led the offensive charge in Game 1 with four RBIs, while Hills added three hits and two runs scored. In the circle, Landrie McKee was steady throughout, tossing a complete game with seven innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out five.

If Game 1 showed resilience, Game 2 showcased dominance.

Morgan Hills hit a homerun in game 2 driving in 3 more runs.

Colby broke through in the fourth inning and never looked back, rolling to a 14-0 shutout win behind an explosive offensive performance and overpowering pitching. The Lady Eagles plated two runs in the fourth inning, then added two more in the fifth to build momentum.

The game turned into a rout in the sixth and seventh innings as Colby’s bats came alive. A two-run double from Ryler Carter highlighted a four-run sixth inning, and the Lady Eagles followed that with a massive seven-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

Hills provided one of the biggest moments of the day with a three-run home run in the seventh, part of her strong all-around performance. Kenley Moss also delivered at the plate, finishing with three hits and three RBIs, while Ellie McCarty added two hits and two RBIs of her own.

Inside the circle, Carter was dominant, throwing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just four hits while striking out 11 batters, consistently keeping Lakin off balance and in check throughout the contest.

Across both games, the Lady Eagles showed a balanced approach—combining aggressive baserunning, situational hitting, and strong pitching—to secure the season-opening sweep. With contributions throughout the lineup and two complete-game efforts in the circle, Colby set the tone early for what could be a promising 2026 campaign.
