The Colby Community College wrestling team closed out its 2025–26 season on the national stage, competing March 6–7 at the NJCAA National Championships inside the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In just the second year under head coach Joseph Cornejo, the Trojans qualified five wrestlers for the tournament and came away with one All-American performance.

As a team, Colby finished 29th out of 55 programs with 17.5 points. Indian Hills claimed the national title with 201.5 points, followed by Western Wyoming (188) and Iowa Central (145.5).

Leading the way for the Trojans was Cah’mari Johnson at 165 pounds, who secured his second consecutive All-American honor. After earning the distinction a year ago, Johnson battled through a challenging bracket to finish seventh this season.

Johnson opened the tournament with byes into the round of 16 before running into eventual contender Colton Theobald, who won by technical fall. Dropping to the consolation side, Johnson responded with a strong run. He pinned Isaac Barba in 3:19, advanced via medical forfeit over Kaden King, and then needed just 57 seconds to pin Grayson Carpenter. In the blood round, Johnson delivered a decisive 13-6 victory over Kley Krause to guarantee All-American status. After another matchup with Theobald resulted in a loss, Johnson secured seventh place when Alden Cohen forfeited.

At 133 pounds, Talon Suttles put together one of the more productive tournaments for Colby. After an opening-round bye, Suttles dropped his first match but rebounded on the backside with consecutive decision victories—10-4 over Robert Wicks and 11-4 over Blake Eatman—before being eliminated by Luke Potter.

Heavyweight Robert Tatum also made a strong push through the consolation bracket. Following a 6-1 loss to Nasir Edmonds, Tatum responded with back-to-back wins, defeating Mykola Fabian 4-2 and Powis Mensah 3-0. His tournament run came to an end in a 6-1 decision loss to Mark Marin.

At 125 pounds, Luis Vasquez showed resilience after an early setback. Following a loss in the round of 32, Vasquez bounced back with a 12-6 decision over Braxton Hutchinson before being eliminated by technical fall against Truth Vesey.

Sebastian Rodriguez, competing at 141 pounds, faced a difficult draw. After a first-round bye, he was defeated by technical fall in the championship bracket and later dropped a 6-1 decision to Evan Coble on the backside to conclude his tournament.

While the Trojans did not contend for a team title, the experience gained at the national level marked another step forward for the program under Cornejo. With five national qualifiers and a repeat All-American in Johnson, Colby continues to build a foundation that points toward future success on the mat.
