Trojans Show Offensive Firepower While Searching for Consistency in the Circle

April 20, 2026

The Colby Community College softball team continues to navigate the grind of the conference schedule, showing flashes of offensive firepower while working to find consistency in the circle during a busy stretch from April 9 through April 18.

Over that span, the Lady Trojans experienced a mix of results, splitting key doubleheaders while also running into tough outings against deeper pitching staffs. The most noticeable trend has been a lineup capable of producing runs in bunches, paired with pitching performances that have varied from dominant to vulnerable depending on the day.

Offensively, Colby has proven it can change a game quickly. Multiple contests featured explosive innings fueled by extra-base hits and timely home runs. When the Trojans are at their best, they are aggressive early in counts and able to string together quality at-bats. That approach was evident in wins over McCook and Pratt, where Colby used power hitting to build leads and maintain control.

However, consistency remains the key hurdle. There were stretches—particularly in losses to Hutchinson and Butler—where the offense struggled to sustain pressure, producing scattered hits without the timely execution needed to capitalize. The difference between wins and losses during this stretch often came down to sequencing rather than total opportunities.

In the circle, the trend has been more pronounced. Colby pitchers have shown the ability to generate outs and limit damage in short bursts, but control issues and defensive miscues have extended innings for opponents. Walks, hit batters, and errors repeatedly created high-stress situations, leading to big innings that proved difficult to overcome. When the Trojans limited free passes and played clean defense, the results were noticeably stronger, including a pair of controlled victories where pitching kept opposing offenses quiet.

Despite the inconsistency, several players stood out as key contributors during this stretch.

Brooklynn Ekker continues to be one of the most reliable bats in the lineup. She consistently found ways to get on base and delivered extra-base production, including multiple impactful hits and a home run. Her ability to produce in key moments has made her a cornerstone of the Trojans’ offensive identity.

Brooklynn Ekker continued to lead the Lady Trojans at the plate during this stretch, tallying multiple multi-hit games while driving in runs and adding extra-base power, including a home run, to anchor Colby’s offense.

Briley Christensen also turned in a strong stretch, showcasing both power and run production. Christensen’s home runs and timely hitting helped spark several of Colby’s biggest innings, and she consistently applied pressure in the middle of the order. Her presence has been critical in driving in runs and shifting momentum.

Aly Richardson provided another steady offensive presence, delivering power from the plate and contributing multiple extra-base hits, including home runs during the stretch. Beyond her hitting, Richardson also played a key role defensively, helping stabilize the infield during high-pressure situations.

As the Trojans move forward, the blueprint is becoming clear. The offense has proven it can compete with anyone in the conference when it is clicking, but sustained success will depend on tightening up pitching control and minimizing defensive errors. If Colby can pair its explosive offensive potential with more consistent performances in the circle, the pieces are in place for a strong finish to the season.
