The Colby High School Lady Eagles saw their undefeated start come to a halt Tuesday evening, as Hays-TMP delivered a powerful offensive performance in a doubleheader sweep at Young Memorial Park on April 7.

Colby entered the matchup riding early-season momentum but quickly found itself facing one of the toughest tests on its schedule. Hays-TMP’s lineup proved relentless across both games, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues to take control.

In game one, Colby struck first and briefly looked poised to keep its unbeaten run intact. Morgan Hills provided the early spark, launching a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead. Hills finished with a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI, and the home run.

However, that early advantage was short-lived. Hays-TMP responded in the second inning with a solo home run to tie the game, then began to separate in the third. A combination of aggressive base running, extra-base hits, and defensive errors allowed TMP to take control, turning a close game into a widening gap.

Despite solid efforts from Emily Flanagin and Fia Tubbs, who each recorded hits, the Lady Eagles struggled to string together offensive production against TMP pitching. Ryler Carter battled through all seven innings in the circle, striking out five, but faced constant pressure as TMP tallied 19 hits and continued to add runs in the middle innings.

TMP broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning and continued to pile on late, ultimately handing Colby a 12-2 defeat.

Game two followed a similar pattern, though Colby showed flashes of offensive resilience early.

Morgan Hills connects at the plate during Colby’s doubleheader with Hays-TMP on April 7 at Young Memorial Park. Hills led the Lady Eagles offensively in game one, going 2-for-3 with a home run, RBI, and run scored.

After TMP jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Lady Eagles answered immediately in the bottom half. Myka Nolan and Sadie Cheney each reached base with hits, setting the stage for Carter, who delivered the highlight of the night with a three-run home run to give Colby a 3-2 advantage.

That momentum, however, was quickly erased. TMP capitalized on a string of defensive errors in the second inning, scoring six runs to reclaim control of the game. The inning proved decisive, as Colby was unable to recover from the deficit.

Nolan and Cheney each added a hit and a run in the contest, while Carter finished with two hits, three RBIs, and the home run. Still, the Lady Eagles struggled to slow TMP’s offense, which continued to produce runs through the middle innings behind consistent contact and aggressive baserunning.

Landrie McKee opened up game 2 pitching for 4 innings giving up 8 hits, 15 runs, and earning a strikeout.

TMP extended its lead with a five-run fourth inning, pushing the margin out of reach and securing the sweep.

For Colby, the losses serve as an early-season measuring stick. While the Lady Eagles showed the ability to generate offense in key moments, defensive consistency and limiting big innings will be points of emphasis moving forward.

Despite the setback, Colby remains a competitive squad with proven playmakers at the plate and in the field. The Lady Eagles will look to regroup and respond as they continue their season, using Tuesday’s games as a learning opportunity against a high-level opponent.
