Lady Trojans Dominate in Goodland, Sweep Fort Hays Tech Northwest in High-Scoring Doubleheader
April 8, 2026
The Colby Community College Lady Trojans made a loud statement on April 8, traveling to Goodland and sweeping a doubleheader from Fort Hays Tech Northwest in dominant fashion. Behind explosive offense and strong pitching performances, Colby controlled both games from the outset, rolling to decisive wins in each contest.
Game one set the tone early, as the Lady Trojans erupted for six runs in the opening inning and never looked back. Colby’s lineup wasted no time applying pressure, stringing together hits, aggressive baserunning, and capitalizing on defensive miscues to build a commanding lead.
Ava Pezely sparked the offense with a multi-hit performance, while Brooklynn Ekker and Katelyn Zukewich delivered key extra-base hits in the opening frame. By the end of the first inning, Colby had already built a 6-0 advantage and continued to pile on in the second and third innings.
The third inning proved to be the breaking point, as the Lady Trojans exploded for a massive scoring surge. Timely hitting from Jalyssa Sabatka, Pezely, and Brooke Zinken helped push the lead well into double digits, highlighted by Sabatka’s triple and Pezely’s continued presence at the plate.
Colby finished game one with 25 runs, showcasing depth throughout the lineup. Ekker led the way with four RBIs, while Pezely added four hits and three RBIs. Zukewich and Sabatka each crossed the plate three times, contributing to the overwhelming offensive output.
In the circle, Cheyenne Cramer provided a steady performance, working three innings while allowing four runs on three hits and striking out four. Despite a brief push from the Tigers in the middle innings, Colby maintained full control throughout the contest.
Game two followed a similar script, with Colby once again jumping out early and never allowing the Tigers to settle in. The Lady Trojans plated two runs in the first inning and then broke the game open in the second with a five-run outburst fueled by extra-base hits from Emma McDonald and Isabella Malone.
The highlight of game two came from Ekker, who delivered a standout performance at the plate. She blasted two home runs, driving in four runs and continuing her dominant day. Malone and Ali Nikolaus also added home runs, as Colby’s power surge overwhelmed the Tigers’ pitching staff.
Nikolaus was equally effective in the circle, tossing four innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five. Her ability to limit damage and keep hitters off balance allowed Colby’s offense to continue building momentum throughout the game.
Zinken added another strong performance with three hits and four RBIs, while Malone contributed three RBIs of her own. The Lady Trojans showcased a balanced attack, with production coming from nearly every spot in the lineup.
Defensively, Colby remained solid behind its pitchers, minimizing opportunities for Fort Hays Tech Northwest to mount any sustained rallies.
By the final inning, Colby had once again built a commanding lead, finishing off the sweep with a 17-2 victory in game two.
Across both games, the Lady Trojans combined for 42 runs, demonstrating both power and consistency at the plate. The sweep highlights Colby’s offensive depth and its ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, while also reinforcing strong pitching performances from both Cramer and Nikolaus.
With the road sweep in Goodland, the Lady Trojans continue to build momentum as they move deeper into the season, showing signs of a team capable of competing at a high level across all phases of the game.
