Colby Eagles Punch Ticket to State with Third-Place Finish at Home Sub-State

The Colby Eagle golf team made good use of their experience at Meadowlake Golf Course as they qualified as a team for the KSHSAA state golf tournament after placing third. The day was not ideal, as the blowing rain made additional challenges for the golfers.

Non the less, the five Eagle golfers stamped their ticket by powering through the day and posting a 359, behind regional champion Goodland (345), and runner-up Russell (352). The top three teams automatically qualified for state, allowing Colby to extend its season after a steady and composed performance.

At the helm of the team was Kaleb Dixon, he turned in an outstanding round of 84 to tie for sixth overall individually. Dixon was remarkably consistent, carding a 42 on both the front and back nine to secure a top-10 finish.

Dixon shot matching rounds of 42 on both the front and back nine to help Colby secure a third-place team finish and a berth in the KSHSAA 3A State Golf Tournament.

Kieren Youngman was also a stable scorer finishing the day with an 88 for 20th place. Youngman was especially strong on the front nine, finishing only 2 over par which was team best on the front.

Kade Youngman was close behind with an 89, tying for 22nd overall. He took a 46 on the opening nine, and then rebounded to finish with a 43 on the back.

The last scorer for Colby was Ryker Schmidtberger, he finished with a 98, which was crucial as Colby led Lakin by one stroke and Beloit by two strokes to end the tournament.

Colby also carded rounds from Cash Tubbs (117) and Sean Wederski (118).

Colby’s Kieren Youngman delivered a key score in the Eagles’ state-qualifying performance, shooting an 88 to tie for 20th place at the 3A West Sub-State Tournament. Youngman opened with an impressive 38 on the front nine and helped Colby edge Lakin and Beloit for the final automatic team berth to state.

Goodland was led by Braylon Mull, who shot an 81 to finish second individually, while Russell’s Jake Mooney earned medalist honors with an even-par 80.

For Colby, qualifying for state on its home course made the accomplishment even more meaningful. The Eagles entered the day needing a complete team effort, and all four scoring golfers delivered when it mattered most.

With the top-three finish secured, Colby now turns its attention to the KSHSAA 3A State Golf Tournament, where the Eagles will look to carry their momentum and continue building on a successful season.
