Letter from President Carter - Colby Community College

May 22, 2026

Greetings from Colby Community College.

We hope everyone is doing well. We are proud to conclude another excellent academic year. Colby Community College was fortunate to have such incredible students graduating. I am very excited to see where this future group of leaders helps propel society forward. Graduation is always such a bittersweet time, as we see wonderful individuals achieve their academic goals, but no longer get to see them on campus.

The College has a wide range of projects planned for this summer, all aimed at enhancing the campus and improving the student experience. The first initiative includes an LED lighting upgrade and tile replacement throughout the Student Union. Due to the anticipated energy savings, the project is expected to pay for itself within five to seven years.

The second big project that we are working on is our kitchen renovation. It formally began on May 18, 2026. QMC, Inc. is the vendor, and the renovation will completely redo the kitchen and water lines throughout. It is tentatively expected to be completed by July 31. This space has not received a major renovation in several decades.

The College is also working to complete our new maintenance building and dormitory. If you have looked at the west side of campus near the Event Center, you will see a large amount of dirt work being performed. This is one of the largest projects in the history of the College, and it will help accommodate our growing student population by providing additional housing. Over the last four calendar years, the College has increased enrollment by 300 full-time students annually. Our hope is that we can continue to grow enrollment and get more individuals in Northwest Kansas to receive education and support our local businesses.

The Campus Beautification group continues to do great work. They have tirelessly worked to improve the campus's aesthetics. Additionally, we worked with our welding program at Norton Correctional Facility to build new flower pots. You will see these bright blue additions throughout the campus.

We are so grateful to our community, alumni, and the students we serve. Thank you all for everything you do. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. If you have not been on campus lately, please stop by; we would love to see you.

Respectfully,

Seth Macon Carter
