Lady Bulldogs Win Three of Five in Almena

The Golden Plains High School Lady Bulldog volleyball team competed in a dual with the Northern Valley Huskies in Almena on September 15. The Dogs won three out of five matches to add a win to their record bringing them to 10-4 on the season.
The first set was all Huskies as they claimed the 25-12 win. The Dogs fought back in the second set to win 25-22. They continued to play strong in the third set taking control for the 25-8 win.
The Huskies played with determination in the fourth set as the Dogs held strong. The Huskies edged ahead for a 28-26 win. Victory came down to the fifth and final set, played to 15. It was another hard-fought battle between the two teams with the Bulldogs coming out with the win 16-14.
Lakin Wark, Kadalen Unrein, and Katie Carter each had 3 ACE serves along with 2 from Ellie Romero, and 1 each by Brenlynn Rath, Kaylee Kier, and Makynslee Vargas. Rath slammed down 19 kills along with Unrein 10, Wark 6, and Estella Vargas 1. Wark led the Bulldogs with 16 assists, Unrein 11, E. Vargas 2, Kier 2, and Jade Dible 1. Unrein had 4 blocks, Rath 2, and Carter 1. The team totaled 94 digs including Rath 21, Carter 16, Unrein 14, Romero 12, Wark 11, E. Vargas 10, Dible 3, Kier 3, M. Vargas 2, Molly Ritter 2.
“We battled really well,” said Brenlynn Rath. “We continue to improve; that is always our goal.” “When things got tight, we pulled together and pulled through for the win,” added Lakin Wark. “We want to work on keeping our energy consistent. At practice, we start with energy and end with energy.” The Bulldogs will travel to Quinter on September 22 to face the Bulldogs from Quinter and the Lady Indians from St. Francis.
