HCS high school gardening class taking notes on their field trip to Aaron Horinek’s farm

The High School Gardening Class took a field trip to Aaron Horinek's farm Monday afternoon to see their farming practices using natural composting fertilizer processes. The class will be learning about vermiculture (earthworm farming) on a small scale. Aaron is using vermiculture on a large scale by adding worm castings as part of his compost fertilizer on his crops.

Tuesday evening, our junior and senior high volleyball teams hosted Western Plains. Our junior high won the first game but lost the next two. Our junior high JV team won handily against Western Plains. HCS’s high school varsity team won the first game but then lost the next three in the best three out of five games. Our high school JV team won the first game but ended up losing the next two in the best two out of three games. We will continue to improve!

On Thursday, our high school volleyball team played Ellis and Rawlins County JVs at the Colby elementary gym. We lost two close games to Ellis but bounced back to defeat Rawlins County in two out of three games. Our young ladies continue to improve.

Pastor Tim Bonebright was our Chapel speaker this week. His main two points were as follows: 1) Jesus is the answer; 2) pray for others to come to salvation. Pastor Bonebright used several examples to solidify his main points. One point that stood out is that it is easy to pray for those we like and love, however, we should be praying even more for those that we find hard to like. Thank you, Pastor Bonebright, for sharing with our students and staff.

Photo Girl, Michelle Morris, was here on Thursday to take school pictures. Thank you, Mrs. Morris!

Next Wednesday, 9-23-26, our student council is hosting “See You at the Pole”. This begins at 7:00 am and will be followed up with doughnuts, juice, and milk. Hope to see you there!

We will be doing our annual vision screening on Thursday morning, 9-21-26. Thank you, Vision Source, for donating your time to help our students.

Also, next Thursday evening will be our semi-annual HOPE meeting. Mrs. Bandy will be emailing information about this event.

Enjoy your weekend!
