Lady Trojans Claim Key Conference Win Over Cloud County, 55–48
December 6, 2025
The Colby Community College women’s basketball team delivered one of its most composed performances of the season on December 6, securing a 55–48 home victory over Cloud County in a game defined by defensive resolve, timely scoring, and poise in late-game situations.
Head coach Darin Spence said the effort reflected the identity his team continues to build. “Defensively we were pretty good again. We have to defend tough and smart each game, in order to give our offense an opportunity to get going,” Spence said. “Each game we try and figure out what works for us and we go to that. Never easy beating a Cloud team and I thought we played with great composure and poise. Very good team win for us.”
The Lady Trojans set that defensive tone throughout the night, holding Cloud to 29 percent shooting from the field and just 21.7 percent from beyond the arc according to the official box score
Colby’s defensive pressure produced 17 Cloud turnovers and limited second-chance points to only three, allowing the Trojans to dictate pace despite some of their own offensive streakiness.
Offensively, Colby found balanced production from its rotation. Jera Kruleski led the scoring with 13 points, including three made threes, while Dessirae Ulmer continued her efficient interior play with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting
Easha Potts added nine points and seven rebounds, and Olivia Hultgren delivered seven points, highlighted by a key third-quarter three that halted a Cloud run and kept Colby in front.
Perhaps the biggest factor, however, was dominance on the glass. Colby outrebounded Cloud by a commanding 42–24 margin, with freshman Elia Ando pulling down 10 rebounds off the bench to go with three points and valuable hustle minutes. Piri Lewis added six rebounds and five assists in a steady floor-game performance that helped Colby manage possessions late.
The game was tight throughout, tied at 14 after the first quarter and with Colby holding slim advantages of 26–24 at halftime and 39–37 entering the fourth
The Lady Trojans opened the final period with a strong defensive stretch, then used a combination of paint scoring from Ulmer and Potts and steady free-throw shooting to create the final margin. Colby finished the night shooting nearly 39 percent from the field and 70.6 percent from the line
The win moves Colby to 6–6 overall and 3–3 in the KJCCC, with another opportunity coming quickly. The Lady Trojans close out their pre-break with a trip to Coffeyville on Dec. 18, continue working toward lineup continuity and consistent rhythm.
With defense setting the tone and the roster trending upward in cohesion, Spence said the group is showing encouraging signs at the right time.
“This was a very good team win for us,” he noted, “and we need to keep building from here.”
