A summer tradition came to a close on a cool, cloudy afternoon as Colby Convention and Visitor’s Bureau hosted its final Picnic in the Park of the season at Fike Park. With a steady breeze of 10 miles per hour and temperatures hovering around 70 degrees, attendees bundled up for the unseasonably brisk midday concert.
While the crowd was slightly smaller than in previous weeks, the community spirit remained strong. Friends and families spread out across the park with lawn chairs and blankets, determined to enjoy one last helping of food, fellowship, and live music.
This week’s lunch was provided by the Colby Rotary Club as a free-will donation meal, featuring hearty sloppy joes, a variety of chips, cookies, and refreshing cold beverages. Volunteers served up smiles and sandwiches alike, helping warm up attendees against the wind.
On stage, local favorite Shannon Myers returned for the series finale, this time performing as a duet with a fellow musician. Their set featured an inspiring mix of musical theatre and country hits, including selections from Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman, as well as the popular country ballad The Bones. Their harmonies resonated through the park, creating a reflective and heartfelt atmosphere.
Despite the chilly air, applause echoed between songs as the community soaked in the final notes of a well-loved summer tradition. As blankets were folded and lawn chairs packed away, the feeling among the crowd was clear — gratitude for the music, the meals, and the memories.
The Picnic in the Park series once again proved to be a highlight of Colby’s summer calendar, bringing together residents young and old for weekly midday escapes filled with joy and connection. Until next year, Fike Park.
