Lady Eagles Sweep Oakley Golf Invitational
September 15, 2025
The Colby Lady Eagle golf program turned in one of its best performances in recent memory on Monday, September 15, as both the varsity and junior varsity teams competed in Oakley. The result was a clean sweep, with the varsity claiming the team title and every Eagle golfer landing in the top 11 individually, while the junior varsity squad also secured top finishes of their own.
On the varsity side, Colby’s depth and consistency were on full display. Braelyn Stupka led the charge with a steady round that earned her the individual championship, while Cora DeGood finished runner-up. The Eagles nearly filled the entire leaderboard from there—Lakyn Sims placed third, Alayna Hrnicek took fourth, Dayton Johnson finished ninth, Landrie McKee was 10th, and Stella Kauffman rounded things out in 11th. With all seven varsity golfers inside the top 11, Colby easily secured the team championship.
The junior varsity group had a strong showing of its own. Taylor Andreasen finished in first place, with Ashlyn Smith right behind in second. Ashlynn Remington added a fourth-place finish to give Colby three medalists at the JV level.
Head coach Rick Williams praised the team’s growth and energy, noting that several players recorded personal bests.
“We got a really good round from Braelyn and a solid round from Lakyn,” Williams said. “Then Cora, Alayna, Landrie, Stella, and Dayton all shot personal bests! I think we are starting to relax a bit. We’ve been preaching that it’s supposed to be fun and to just go out and enjoy the moment. I feel like we really did that today.”
Williams added that the team’s commitment to the fundamentals is paying off.
“Of course, we are getting a lot better at ball striking and that makes it easier to settle in as well. This team really likes each other and is willing to put in the work. That’s really all a coach can ask for,” he said.
The coach also highlighted the rapid improvement of a roster that includes many newcomers.
“We have a lot of new girls and girls who have played less than two years,” Williams said. “They are all willing to put in the time on less-than-exciting short game drills, and you can improve a lot pretty quickly if you’re willing to do that.”
While the competition in Oakley may not have been as strong as other tournaments, Williams pointed out that the Eagles’ performance was significant in another way.
“The competition today was not strong, but we shot our best team score of the year by a bunch and broke 400 as a team for the first time this year,” he said.
With a first-place sweep at both levels and clear signs of growth across the roster, the Lady Eagles return home from Oakley with plenty of confidence heading into the next stretch of their season.
