February 4, 2026
The Colby Community College Lady Trojans delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Tuesday night, knocking off No. 3–ranked Dodge City 71–64 on February 4 at the Colby Event Center. Behind a dominant scoring effort and relentless pressure on both ends of the floor, Colby controlled much of the game and held off multiple late pushes from one of the top teams in the country.
The contest opened with Dodge City applying early pressure, building a small advantage midway through the first quarter. Colby responded quickly, shifting momentum behind the aggressive play of Dessirae Ulmer. Ulmer sparked a scoring surge that flipped the game in the Trojans’ favor, pouring in 10 points during a decisive run that pushed Colby ahead 16–13. The Lady Trojans closed the quarter on a 12-point run overall, taking a 20–13 lead after one and energizing the home crowd.
Colby maintained that edge through the second quarter by attacking the paint and forcing Dodge City into difficult looks. The Trojans’ defensive effort limited the Conquistadors’ efficiency while Colby continued to find success inside and at the free-throw line. Despite Dodge City trimming the margin, Colby held a 34–28 advantage at halftime. Ulmer led all scorers at the break with 17 points, setting the tone for what would become a standout night.
The Trojans came out of the locker room with renewed intensity in the third quarter. Ulmer opened the half with a second-chance three-pointer, and Colby continued to pressure Dodge City defensively while converting on the offensive end. The Trojans outscored the visitors 21–15 in the quarter, stretching the lead to 55–43 heading into the fourth and putting themselves in position to close out the upset.
Dodge City refused to go away, turning the fourth quarter into a back-and-forth battle. Colby continued to emphasize attacking the paint, maintaining a nine-point lead at the five-minute mark, 59–50. The Conquistadors made several late runs and had multiple clean looks from beyond the arc in the final minute, but the Trojans stayed composed at the free-throw line and on the defensive glass.
With under a minute remaining, Colby clung to a five-point edge, 66–61, as Ulmer continued to shoulder the offensive load. Dodge City’s final attempts to close the gap fell short, and Colby sealed the win at the line in the closing seconds, finishing off the 71–64 victory.
Ulmer finished with a game-high 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting, adding 11 rebounds and four steals in a complete performance that anchored Colby on both ends of the floor. Piri Lewis added 15 points, while Jera Kruleski contributed nine points off the bench. Colby shot 40.4 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 30–29, while committing just nine turnovers against a high-pressure Dodge City defense.
The win improves Colby to 12–10 overall and 9–7 in conference play, while Dodge City fell to 19–1 on the season with the Trojans stopping their undefeated streak. More importantly, the result showcased Colby’s ability to compete with the top teams in the league, combining disciplined defense, interior scoring, and timely execution in a statement home victory.
